Just keeping this separate from the other drinking thread...

I am going to stay dry through September on order to save some money and to try an loose a couple of kg to buy some new bike wheels and to get to a racing weight.

Anyone else fancy joining me?

I managed dry January but an evening beer, especially when working away, has become a bit too routine.

I'll keep this thread updated with progress!

Well today's the day!

I prepared last night by ensuring that we have fresh bread and milk so that I don't have to pop to the shop tonight and pass the 3 bottles of ale for £5 shelf. I also did all the ironing as I usually have a beer to get me through the basket of creased shirts.

I fitted all my winter lights to the bike too so that I can go for a ride this evening - to take my mind off not drinking and then have a piece of cake and a cup of tea when I get back.

First night done!

And a 20 miles bike ride!

Off to bed soon to read a book. I wonder if I'll sleep better, hopefully I won't be woken up at 3am needing to go to the toilet like I normally need to after a few beers then evening before.

3rd night last night without a beer.

Bit of a row with my wife but I calmed my self with a cup of tea and a Nice cream biscuit.

First week done!

I could have demolished a Hobgoblin last night but had a cuppa and choc bar instead.

I'm by myself in a hotel tonight so that will take some will power!

I managed the night in the hotel = mainly as the A63 into Hull was closed and my diversion meant I didn't get there till 10:45 and was knackered so went straight to bed without a thought of beer.

Last night was a doddle too as I went out on my bike.

Might do Sober October too biggrin

Another dry Friday! Even after a big Tesco shop, which was £20 cheaper than usual without the beer and wine.

Day 17 for me. Sat in a Holiday Inn but little desire to drink even during my earlier curry.

Again, a bike ride this evening took my mind off the ale and I've just finished a hot chocolate and caramel cake bar. Or 3 biggrin

Another weekend in. I have to endure a few days in Aberdeen this week without a bike to distract me. Wonder what's on at the cinema?

I'm in Aberdeen at the moment! Might go to the cinema tonight.

I am offshore at the start of October for a week so will definitely extend my abstinence to my return - no choice but to be dry there!

If I include the wine or gin I would normally get my wife to drink whilst I chug my mugs (she's dry this month too), I reckon I've saved £240 so far this month. That's almost a set of Fulcrum Racing 3 wheels biggrin

Well that's 4 weekends dry - I'm into the final stretch!

However, I am going for a lap of honour and staying dry till after my offshore trip so I might have a beer the 2nd weekend in October. Or I might not biggrin

I wouldn't say it was easy - I am still looking forward to a few beers.

However, I am richer, weigh less and am sleeping better. And for these reasons, I will go on for a bit longer biggrin

9st!

I already exercise a lot - often more than 100miles per week on the bike at a good speed.

To be honest I was hoping to loose more than 2kg being off the beer. Trouble is I was compensating with cups of tea and Hobnobs!

Still beer free!

A week offshore helps although the amount of food I've eaten means the 75kg I weighed on Sunday will be distant memory...
