Have just returned from the Pharmacy in the Hospital where I work after trying to purchase 3 items of medicine, night nurse, day nurse, and a cough mixture. I was interrogated by the woman on the desk to supply details of my symptoms, whether I had seen my GP, and if I had not, then she suggested I did. I reiterated my request for the items I required, then she went out the back with the items in her hand. She then reappeared with a message from the pharmacist that I could only have 2 out of the 3 items. I enquired why this was, and she stated that she did'nt want me coming back later into A and E.
I take great exception at being treated like an idiot. I'm a 60 year old Professional working within the trust, since when did it become necessary to have to explain my needs to counter staff.
There is now nothing to stop me from getting the other item somewhere else, should I choose to be so irresponsible.
Is it just me

Maybe the dreadful pauper on the counter wasn't aware of your awesome credentials?Prof Prolapse said:
Similarly I despair. But it's more the condescension I despise, I find it worse in places like Boots where pharmacy technicians will talk down to me. I do childishly correct them whenever I can.
The thing is though, I had a look at some research by the poisons bureau, and the fact is this limit on paracetamol would seem to genuinely seem beneficial in reducing the number of idiots killing themselves either accidentally or on purpose.
Whether or not you think that's worth the inconvenience of going to two shops rather than one, I guess is the only question.
I agree Prof, probably worth the inconvenience to go elsewhere, but to be told it's to save an A & E issue is surely condescending. If it's about paracetomol limits, then tell me, don't insult me. Some people seem to hide behind the rules, and they don't seem to know the rules. The thing is though, I had a look at some research by the poisons bureau, and the fact is this limit on paracetamol would seem to genuinely seem beneficial in reducing the number of idiots killing themselves either accidentally or on purpose.
