Eye bloodshot and sticky

I've had this for a few days, and the drops I using, Brolene, don't seem to be having any effect.

As my doctors have a 2 week wait for appointments, I'm stuck. A bit of research suggests cleaning the eye regulary it will go away by itself but it may take up to 2 weeks. I can't wait that long as my eye is so gross it is frightening the children.

Anyone any tips or had something similar and can suggest something that works?

I've got the Optrex eye drops, will give them a try. The pharmacist was confident they will work.
