After a Spirometer test and a score of 0.67 or 67% I have been told I have moderate copd and the lungs of a 73 year old.
I am 45 non smoker and ran 4 marathons last year and due to run Manchester marathon on Sunday.
I had chest xrays and bloods taken and these where clear apart from 1 blood test that I am still awaiting results on called the alpha 1 test.
I have been put on a dry powder inhaler taken twice a day and a inhaler when I am out of breath, which does not happen during normal days only when I am running, but they say it is not asthma as the spirometer test is taken with a inhaler and it did not improve by test results, and to be honest the inhaler on a run makes no difference.
I have adjusted my running speed so not out of breath as much but in only 6 months I have gone from a 8.30 min mile on a half marathon to 10:30 min miles.
anyone else have any dealings with it as a non smoker or oap, it seems odd to be told that I have it.

I hail from a bloodline of smokers and miners. Copd has been rife in our family
Consequently you sound very unusual
Has your diagnosis come from a proper chest specialist?
no just from the spirometry test not seen a consultant yet I was given a course of a dry powder inhaler before I go back to see dr in 10 days.Consequently you sound very unusual
