Ankle Replacement Surgery - anyone had it?

My wife has severe arthritis in her ankle, and has been referred to a surgeon specialising in ankle replacement. Has anyone undergone this procedure? If so,
1. how was the procedure itself?
2. How was your recovery
3. How long before you were back on your feet fully?
4. What's your opinion of it - worth undertaking for a mature lady with a lot of ankle pain and deformity?
