How many drinks take you over the limit.
Discussion
Not advocating drink driving, although now I have moved to the country, where there is little or no public transport, it would appear that everyone on the roads is pi55ed bar me, as I commute home late at night.
Been here a year now and I just don't go out to pubs, not just the cost of cabs it's also the fact that they are either pretty unreliable, or that there is only one taxi per village.
My rule of thumb has always been a pint or a glass of wine, maybe an extra little glass if I'm out eating. If I have a pint at lunchtime I can really feel it's effects but in the evening I can have 3 before getting merry.
I'm going on a date tonight (2nd) and we are meeting at a pub equidistant from both our homes. The village it's in is about 10 miles away. She's driving, so no point me shelling out £40 in cab fares just so I can have a few drinks and turn into a babbling slurring wreck whilst she sips her lime and soda.
So, leads me to the point of this, I looked up various sites that supposedly work out how much you can drink before you are at the limit, or rather until you are still sober enough to drive.
http://www.rupissed.com/ I chose this one as it takes age, gender, weight and height into account.
Now according to the above, if I have a double Scotch (Calm the nerves) when I arrive at 7pm, and then a glass of wine with dinner, I'll be clear, ie 0.00% by 11pm kicking out time.
What amazes me is that if I were to have a double whisky and 3 large glasses of wine, it calculates that I'll be a smidge under 0.08% by 11pm, which I believe is the UK drink drive limit.
I'd be sloshed on that and no way would I be in any decent shape to drive, especially on fast dark windy country lanes, but does this mean that there are plenty of pi55ed up drivers out there who are legal, just?
Would explain a lot.

Maybe you shouldn't drink anything then you're 100% guaranteed not to be over the limit, it's becoming more of the norm now that if you're driving then you drink zero alcohol.
Good point and one I normally stick to. Had to endure a dinner party the other day that I'd driven to, desperate to drink and join in, but of course I didn't.Reg Local said:
OP, everything you need to know about alcohol and driving is in this post here.
Thanks Reg. Interesting article especially the bit about hardened drinkers not affected by a few drinks but still over the limit, same as the wee slip of a girl. Also backs up what I thought, that many people are operating a motor vehicle whilst not fully capable yet are within the limits

On the odd occasion when I plan to have a drink, the delight of using public transport is enough to insure I adopt this approach. Whilst I don't agree with Scotland's lower limits. Is a pint really worth it.? It tastes st with food anyway.
Surely the answer is to get a taxi, get rat arsed, then get a lift to hers to spend the night. Wake up on her toilet floor in a pool of your own vomit and give her a big kiss as you leave the next morning.

I have a re-usable breathalyser which is very accurate. Need it for travelling through France. Why don't you buy one and then see for yourself before you drive?
I was posting more about on researching and finding that people can be pretty pi55ed and still under the limit. I like driving and riding plus it'd destroy my income if I ever lost my licence.Happy to stay off the booze. I'll just have to invite her round one day as I do have a spare room
