So, I woke up the other day, felt like my ears were blocked, almost as if they have "popped" like being on a plane. Usually I give them a quick clean and it goes away, but for some reason it didn't this time. I carried on as normal, and it hasn't really changed; it still feels like I've been on a plane. I've given them a more thorough clean, and the left ear is fine now, however the right ear has got worse, there's a ringing sound I can permanently hear, like the sound you get when you've just got out of a nightclub and you're still "buzzing". It's been like this for a couple of days. Anyone know what's going on? Should I go to see a doctor, or is there something so simple that even someone like me could do to fix it?

Same here.

Go on then, Who else is on the Tinnitus list.

Pete Townshend, although probably not a PHer, has tinnitus, apparantly caused after The Who trashed the stage. Video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xZOrWK6d4g

It's almost a claim to fame; Pete has it, so do I

Hello.Doesn't sound too bad. From your description sounds like middle ear problem rather than inner ear ie possible eustachean tube dysfunction.Have you had a blocked nose due to a cold or hay fever etc.Possible may be outer ear issue eg wax adherent to drum.Get someone to have a look down.
ps I too have tinnitus like Pete and due to noise induced loss (rock and roll!)
Best wishes.
Thanks for your help. Yeah I always seemed to have a blocked nose since I was about 12, will go down the doc's soon. It's been weird the last few days, starting to feel like I'm on a plane and my ear is popping, when I yawn it seems fine, but if I yawn again it goes back to normal.

Oh yeah, gotta love The Who musicmusicmusic, been listening to Quadrophenia quite loud in the Panda lately as well, with windows down.

Quick update; my hearing isn't muffled any more, but I can hear the tinnitus slightly more in the right ear. I've had it as long as I can remember in both ears, but since my hearing went dodgy in the right ear its more hearable in that side, but of course when there is other background noise its not as hearable.

You'll probably find your hearing still hasn't come back 100% in that ear, thus the tinnitus is relatively louder against the background noise you can hear. It took over a week before my ear felt 'right' after I started the antibiotics.
Ah right, I've had a few issues with my right ear, e.g. sometimes when I wake up it is blocked, then after I've had a shower it seems to have gone back to normal, but this time it seems to be OK, just as good as before all this happened. It probably isn't as good as before, but I don't tend to notice these things.
