Just a head's up in case you didn't know, but it kicks off this weekend in Canada. All matches will be shown on the BBC.

Apparently England is a good shout for the Semis, although it seems Germany are going to crush everyone beneath.

Well the first game Canada vs China wasn't a thriller, but China unlucky to lose in the end. But then you can't go around elbowing people in the head in the penalty area.

Yeah, 4:0 after half an hour. Ivory Coast just can't defend.

It's just unwatchable, I tried but it's like watching an under 15 Sunday game with n real bite or competition frown

I wanted to like it.
Ivory Coast are ranked 63rd in the world; Germany are expected to win it.

No different to playing San Marino in a way. No surprise it finished 10:0, the Germans didn't have to break a sweat.

I guess that makes more sense, not a great first game to watch then!
Yeah, Canada vs China was ok. The thing is the tournament has recently been expanded to 24 teams, so there are more weaker teams around.
It's France vs England on Tuesday, which should be tatsy.

3:3, a real humdinger. Cameroon vs Ecuador is a bit meh, USA vs Australia could be good.

Given the number of debutantes this world cup (and the massive disceprancy in funding between the men's and women's gane) it's not surprising there are a few weaker teams. It will be the same at the euros in 2016.

What is refreshing is the lack of diving, theatrics, abusing the ref etc. They still seem to be genuinely enjoying themselves.

Plus the standard is nowhere near as bad as people make out.

England were awful (so inkeeping with the men's game). Spain looked really good in their game.

Currently Germany vs Norway.. the Germans look unstoppable.

Why are they playing on plastic?

And also, what comparable level do you think this is at compared to the mens game. I'm trying to watch it and whilst technically ok, I reckon a conference team would beat either of these teams.
I don't know. It's a different type of game to be honest. It should be judged on its own merits, not compared to the men's game.

For example, anyone who watched say England vs Algeria back in 2010 would have though England were not even in the conference.

Thailand vs ivory coast was an enjoyable watch last night.
Some of the defending was a but comedy but in context this is the first WC for both of them and you could really see what the win meant to them.

I don't understand this obsession with comparing it to the men's game.
Give them both equal funding and equal wages / training facilities, along with equal opportunities to participate (don't forget this enlightened country only permitted it from the 70's!) then make the comparison.

Bless you Vonuber, do you watch much Men's football?

I admire your enthusiasm for the WWC, I just can't get into it frown
Of course I do! I pretty much watch anything that's on terrestrial as well as listen to 5live etc - big fan of football (regardless of who is playing), which is why I am quite enjoying this.

I'll be watching England be dire this weekend as well - and as a bonus it will be in the men's and women's game.

Fair play, I should probably give it more of a chance smile
It's only the group stages at the mo so the standrad should imporve.

I watched the Thailand vs Ivory Coast game, and when the Thais won (in their first ever world cup) it meant so much to them it was quite refreshing to see.

Switzerland vs Ecuador was interesting last night, only 2:0 at half time then they just went to pieces completely.
I actually thought the first half was pretty even.

Sweden vs Australia was good last night.
I am baffled at the decision to play every game on artificial turf though, very strange. Wonder who got a back hander for that.

Tonight it's England vs Colombia, should be good.
