I'm looking for a pokey 4x4.
We have a WRX hatchback on the fleet, and I'm after something with space, pace and real grip. We live out in the Dales so grip in snow is a must.
I plan to keep the WRX and am looking at Golf RS32 v an STi.
Auto would favour the Golf but does grip favour the STi?
What else should I consider ?
All ideas welcome.

I love it! Thanks for the advice.
I do like the idea of boning the WRX up to nearer 300 bhp.

The car I was looking to trade in is my trusty Outback 3.0 Rn. Goes like a train and carries like one too. We're tight for parking and the family grew up and left, so smaller is better. The WRX is Mrs. NailedOn's car so the next one is for me.

I'd looked at some later 5 door STis and they look like terrific value. The saloons are out of my price range just now, but I could live with a hatch back for sure.

Hear what you say about the Golf. Never had a GTI but do wonder if they are hyped up.
Cheers

The Outback 3.6 is starting to look good value. Clearly no hatch, but some out there for £20k. Just looked at the spec and they are faster and more economical than the 3.0. Rn that I have.
Hmm...

Separately, does anyone like the XV? Reviews are poor and dealers are discounting by £2,300.

You need permanent asymmetrical Awd and not a system that is 2wd until grip is lost.

That should narrow your search.
It has narrowed it to Subaru!

I took my WRX to the TVR track day on Monday.
It was a blast. You could not have more fun and the 230bhp is delivered just when you need it. The speed out of bends was amazing.
These cars are going for a song so I'd say great value.
