Car is a 2005 Liberty GT and was fitted with a new clutch about 2 months ago, by the previous owner. The receipt says a new clutch kit was fitted, and the DMF replaced with SMF. I’ve now got a rattle from the clutch – it happens when the clutch is engaged, ie pedal is up, and happens both at idle and when going along in any gear. It doesn’t change pitch with engine speed, but disappears as soon as any pressure is put on the pedal. Doesn’t have to be enough pressure to start to disengage the clutch.

Clutch operates fine, and gear changing is easy enough, and though the biting point is quite hard to determine, it is consistent.

My queries are, is this noise likely to be related to the impending failure of any component within the clutch, and if so, would it have been reasonable for that component to have been inspected/replaced at the same time as the clutch? Or could it be something quite silly, like a loose spring on the pedal? I’m asking these cos clutches are not my forte!!

I’ve not yet taken it back to the garage where work was done, and have no problems doing so, just would like to be a little more knowledgeable when I go.

Thanks for the note - couldn't come to a conclusion either way myself, as it keeps a constant pitch irrespective of engine/transmission speed. I'll drop it into the garage where it was fitted sometime over the next couple of days - best give them the first right of reply!
