They are very rare. The Official Type UK spec ones being particularly rare as there were only 16 of them made. Initially a Japanese market only car, 400 were made and sold exclusively in Japan (Although some were to be privately exported later on). However even though the plaque inside says 400 were made in fact 424 were made in total. Subaru UK persuaded the Japanese division to send over 16 to be sold in the UK. The other 8 were sent elsewhere.

The UK spec one's were sent to Prodrive initially to be made compliant for UK roads before being SVA'd and Prodrive changed a few bits to distinguish them from the import 22B's. Few of them being a rear fog light was needed. They changed the speedo to mph. The Japanese 112mph limiter was removed. They lowered the final drive ratio and put badges on the back to state it was an official UK model. Also they put orange tint in the indicator lens in the rear lights as the imports were clear.

If you wanted to buy a UK one there were certain conditions to be met. Only ones I know of were you had to prove you already owned a Subaru. Agree that you wouldn't sell it within a certain time period and agree to take it to certain dealers who were approved for working on it. Not sure how many Grey import's were brought into the UK but the 22B's destined to be official UK spec arrived at Prodrive in the UK in 1998 to be tweaked and SVA'd in the same year. However at the time the SVA system had a limit to 50 of one particular model import in one year which mean't Prodrive couldn't SVA all theirs in 98 because of the amount of Grey imports that went through. All the Type UK's were released together January 1999. So in 98 there were a minimum of 35 Grey imports in the UK. Who knows how many grey imports there ended up being.

Personally my favourite Scooby out of them all. If I had the money to buy one and not use it as a daily i'd happily pay what they're asking for them laugh
Great write up^ wish they had made more,iv only ever seen one in the flesh on the road.Great looking iconic car.
