Evening
I am just about to get my 53 blobeye remapped at Mocom racing and they have strongly recommended uprating the fuel pump at the same time. I'm not looking for any crazy figures, just an improvement in driveability, so I was wondering what the general consensus is?
Cosworth panel filter will be going in too and it already has a Prodrive back box.
Thanks

Mocom have recommended it, but at £150 fitted it adds a lot to the bill.
I'm not looking for huge figures, but would have thought 260+ might be achieved?

No worries about Zak, he's been great so far, just wanting a second opinion or two.

The car is a 53 plate hatch, done just under 90k. I think the plugs were done by the previous owner.

Not with my mechanical skills!

Good point about the age of it though, but I think I'll leave anything to do with flammable liquids to an expert....

I might do the brake pads myself, with some kevlar pads from Godspeed in mind. Just the fact that I'm not sure if I'll do these tells you everything you need to know about my skills with a spanner!

Fair point! I have a local mechanic I play football with who might do it for beer money..... No rush though, until I see what a difference the remap makes.

I'll get the pump done at the same time as the remap, that's clearly the best idea. It's the brakes I'll do later, or at least get someone less ham fisted to do for me.

You'll never guess what I did this afternoon? Yep, used up my tesco 8p off a litre and brimmed it!

Anyway, I'm happy to pay a fair price to have the work done properly and safely. I'll have a look at those guides though, just out of interest, thanks.

I can't believe it's taken me this long to realise that the thread title is wrong, it should of course say 'fuel pump' not 'full pump' which could easily be misconstrued.

Thank you all for containing your anger at this obvious debasement of the English language. Had the shoe been on the other foot I would have been tempted to vent my spleen. Rest assured, I will be visiting my local 'correctional centre' for a good thrashing later this evening. Thank god this isn't Scoobynet.

Carry on. (and if a mod could adjust the title I may perhaps sleep tonight)

Yes, I am working from home and I am bored. Looking forward to the remap this weekend.

Well it certainly feels a lot quicker! Didn't get much of a chance to run it on the way home as it is a sunny Sunday, so the roads are full of the 40mph brigade. I'll go out a bit later and try again.

While doing the service Zak did notice a few things that need doing, unfortunately. Two driveshaft boots, lower balljoint leaking, exhaust camshaft oil seal and, probably the most expensive of all, rear suspension strut leaking oil. So pretty leaky all round really.

The plan is to do this all next month, so I'm looking for suspension recommendations. Looking on Scoobynet the KYB shocks seems to be a good swap and may sharpen things up a little. Camskill have them here: http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?show=30302

So, are the above a good option without ruining the ride quality and should I do all four? The wagon always sits a little high on its wheels, so it might be worth fitting these at the same time: http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?show=30345 - or possibly the slightly cheaper: http://www.camskill.co.uk/m10b0s2714p30273/APEX_LO...

This could get expensive. Thoughts and suggestions welcomed. Donations too.

Yes, I went for the fuel pump too. So my wallet is decidedly lighter than it was this morning, with more to come!

I couldn't find the Ultra shocks for my car (53 plate wagon), so just selected the standard ones. Any place to get the Sti springs from?

Thanks

Found an interesting version of the Prodrive springs via a link on Scoobynet:http://www.pcadynamics.com - the original designer now working for himself.

They work well with the kyb shocks apparently, but best with the Ultras, so I'll contact Camskill tomorrow to see if they have a version for the hatch.

Mocom have also recommended Whiteline RCA kit and top mounts, as well as some spare Sti alloy front lower arms, which should be interesting.

For the sake of updating my (derailed by me) thread, I contacted Camskill this morning and they checked with Subaru to see which kit would work with my car, so I just ordered a full set of KYB Ultra's.

I also ordered the 'Prodrive' springs from PCA Dynamics (who was thoroughly pleasant to deal with) so hopefully the end result will be pretty amazing. I hope so, that's over £600 in parts already and a lot more to come - almost more than the car is worth!

Just had an email from Camskill telling me that one of the Ultra shocks is out of stock, and will take 2 weeks to come in. Unfortunately my MOT is due and the car will fail without new shocks, which is a bit of a problem.

I could just switch to the Excel kit, but it would be a shame not to go the whole hog.....

Thoughts? Try to source the Ultra shock elsewhere, or just switch to the Excel kit?

Thanks

Well, the car went in today for the suspension to be done (as well as some other bits) - KYB Excel G shocks and the PCA Dynamics 'prodrive' springs (which looked excellent and are made by Eibach, as were the originals).

Collecting on Saturday, so I'll update with some details then.
