Afternoon Subaru people, I'm now in the final stages of looking for and buying a 2 litre R model estate.

If any of you have direct experience of this model in particular, is there anything I need to look out for when I go to view? What is the interval for cambelt replacement and how reliably do they fail if left too long?

I've noticed that three of the cars I'm considering going to view are all BL55 registrations, which appears to be the Reading area. Are Subaru UK based there or have a load of these been registered by a fleet company?

If anyone knows of an example for sale I should really avoid please feel free to PM me!

Thanks for any advice you can give and hopefully I'll be in a decent example within a week or so.

Cheers.

Thanks for that Leefee, I'm down in Devon but don't mind travelling to look at promising cars. The ones I've got in mind are up around the Home counties so it'll be an interesting day out.

I'm not averse to a 2.5 so I won't rule out a slightly older car if it comes to it.

I used to work up there many years ago but a bit far to buy a car!

Cheers.

Thanks all for your input so far. I'm off to look at one tomorrow AM. Nervous as ever when buying secondhand cars but hopefully I'll keep my wits about me. I'll come back and let you know how I get on. Cheers again.

Bought it today. I had asked about the exhaust Y section to the rear silencers and it turns out the previous owner had one made and fitted for about £500 a couple of years ago. It looks pretty damn good and very solid.

Pictures to follow soon.

Cheers.

Hi, sorry for the slight delay, had to help a friend move house yesterday.

Here are a couple of quick snaps. The second shows the replacement rear exhaust section which was mentioned above(and the sharp eyed will notice a replacement drop link too, both sides just done before sale.

The dried mud on the ground is what I scraped off the rear wheel arch liners. Some people just do not know how to wash a car properly!

Cheers.

Thanks, I'm enjoying my choice so far.

I didn't use mine for any of her old tat. She's got an A6 Allroad and a rented van so there was no way I was putting anything in my nice clean boot!

Do you have a receipt for this? Would be good to know where he had it done for future reference.
Hi, yes there's a receipt among the paperwork. I'll dig it out, I think the place was in Wales.

Thanks. I've been driving pretty gently so far and it's very smooth and quiet although you can hear the flat four thrum as the revs rise. It isn't a torque monster at low revs but it rolls along nicely enough and seems pretty economical too for a heavy-ish car.

For CaptainSlow and anyone else interested, the exhaust came from these guys.

Fitted a year ago in June and has a lifetime guarantee.

Cheers

Well, that went well! I gave the car a good wash this morning and when I've tried to start it it won't play ball. It isn't the "nothing doing" of the immobiliser or the churn but no turn of a dead battery either. It's more like the click flicker nothing of...what?

I'm wondering if I was a bit over enthusiastic with the hose pipe and I've flooded something. Any ideas?

I've tried both key fobs so I've ruled them out I think.

Any help gratefully received!

Odd. Battery voltage is waaaay down but has been fine all week. Still reckon I've added some resistance or drain somewhere!

Thanks Leefee, I left the battery on trickle charge for a couple of hours and it sprang back to life, charging over 14V when running.

Fine again this morning too.

I'll check the boot catch and monitor resting charge in battery. Probably a good idea to get a new one with winter coming.

Very nice! I would have preferred blue if one had come up.

Is it the three litre?

Lovely.

I was out taking some pictures earlier and couldn't resist a bit of car tarting.

Leefee, you were bang on. The battery was goosed. Now replaced and all's well.

Thanks again.

Hello again chaps. I've had the car a month or so now and I'm liking it more and more. I've started looking around online for things like service items and there is clearly a massive selection or choice of sites.

What I would like recommendations on is, hopefully, a single site a bit like MX5parts which I use for my GF's car where I can get everything in one place and be pretty sure it'll be the right part first time.

I'm not looking for wacky performance upgrades just OEM or equivalent parts. Which site do you use?

Thanks
