Since coming back from living in America, I decided to buy an MG ZR as my first UK car. Wanted something with smaller engine and cheap enough to run. So came across Rover 25's and MG ZR's. Decided I liked the 1.4 ZR 105 and at first all was fine. After around 6 weeks of owning it I had to not go to Uni in the morning as the back brakes had seized up for some reason. Got those fixed and new brakes. Then it was another problem and another problem. Then sunroof started leaking bad, the started losing loads of coolant which turned out to be radiator hoses. Heater blower never worked on settings 1 or 2. So installed new ceramic resistors to fix that. Now the actual blower motor needs replaced. Windows always steam up bad which google search shows is a mjaor MGR problem. Along with sounding like it's in a tornado driving at 60mph. It is slow as hell. Going up hills is a nightmare. Car insides rattle when driving as MG-Rover skimped and saved. Build quality is rubbish and rust is a major issue. This is literally the tip of the iceberg. I have been to MG-Rover car meets and everybody else seems to have the exact same problems. No wonder these are so cheap. Overall, I am scrapping it and seriously looking at Subaru.

I rather like the larger Impreza as we have kids. I want something that is 4 wheel drive and reliable. I have known a few people with Subarus and they swear by them. Been eyeing up a Scooby for decent bit now and think we have finally just said enough is enough with this MG and now actively looking at what we can get. Probably around £4,000 to spend.

Loving this section of the forum and hoping to learn as much as possible.

Try going on scooby net, the dedicated Subaru/Impreza forum.

How old are you children? I had a 2 Forsters when mine were really small coz it's boot is better able to take push chairs and all the small child claggage.

Currently in a WRX Impreza Wagon (children are 9 & 12). I'll be looking to move to a Legacy in about 2 years as they get bigger and outgrow the rear seats.
Kids are all under 5 years old.
Thanks for the heads up on the scooby forum. Will check that out.

Yes, I have heard from many people that Rove really went downhill. Mine is a 2001 and I regret ever buying it. Today we discovered that not only is it just the sunroof leaking there is now water in the spare wheel arch which from a google search shows this is ANOTHER bloody problem with these cars. It really is one thing after another. I try to keep the car in great running order and I do look after it but I am sick and tired of it. Just bloody awful cheap cars. Sorry for the rant. The MG is going down as the worse car we have ever owned.

+1 for the Forester Turbo. Every bit as quick in a straight line, fun in the bendy bits and a large, square boot to top it off!
I am looking at those. Love the Forester from Mighty Car Mods. Now they have one fast car.
