I really wouldn't mind one of these. Apart from press type road tests and reviews there seems to be little information about them from actual owners. Hardly anyone with them on any UK forums. One point of concern is over the reliability of the STi's 2.5 engine as there were a lot of issues with the hatchback cars and I've not seen anything to say there have been any real changes ?

I am going to get one out on test drive with an open mind and see what I think from there. I've had a few Imprezas in the past and rated them highly. One concern for me personally is the comfort of the seats. The seats in my last one, a Bug STi, played my back up which made the car a disappointment. Yet I find Classic seats are all day comfortable! The new one is widely spoken of as the best STi ever, it's a return to the saloon - everyone moaned in '08 when the hatch was launched! - it has a lot of kit on it and it is a good bit cheaper than the hatch STi was as well. There are some low mileage demo '14 / '15 cars around at the moment for £26k / £27k. Still a chunk of money I know but that seems a lot of car. New Blob STi's were that sort of money new 10 years ago. I cannot decide whether the new one is a bit of a bargain or have things just moved on and it is an oddball car in todays market?

I understand just over 500 have been sold since launch.
I wonder where they all are, as I can honestly say I've not seen one out on the road myself. There are a lot of dealer registered / demo ones - not sure if the 500 'sold' would include those? The rarity / different / it's not yet another VAG group vehicle yawn type thing has a real appeal in itself - it's almost like it's back to the early 90's when they were still quite rare and before the Impreza Turbo boomed massively in popularity and then sadly going on through the chav ownership stages. Impreza deserved better than that and thankfully that era seems to have passed!?

It's not that they're not selling, they've all been sold.
The dealer where I've been to take a look have 2 new unregistered cars and 1 demo car all for sale. Was also told that several as yet unsold 2016 model year cars are ordered and due for arrival later in the year although exact changes to current spec seems to unknown at this time.

I've got one
I had seen your one on another thread somewhere! Looks nice. Care to elaborate on what it's like to live with? How is the comfort / refinement on longer journeys and do you get anything like the claimed fuel economy figures?

Some fair points raised I guess. Golf R just comes up time and time again when researching the WRX STi. Some prefer it, some don't, so it's not clear cut either way. As it stands a Golf R has about zero interest for me, even less for anything with an Audi badge. Perhaps its time to take a Golf R out and see how much it impresses. The well documented Subaru 2.5 engine issues are a concern, at the moment they surround the hawks and hatches but I've seen no proper evidence to support any changes for the later cars either. My nearest worthwhile dealer is a 70 mile round trip away so that's not exactly ideal. Not too concerned about economy, just when I saw an average MPG of around 27 for the STi I thought that sounded reasonable. Lack of decent deals and incentives on a new STi does not help. Dealer won't offer any discount on a car that is in stock, saying Subaru will not allow it because they don't want to devalue them. Still going to test drive one as soon as I get the time.

Just checked on the VW website Golf R configurator - Basic Golf R is over £32k with no options whatsoever apart from metallic paint. Makes the Subaru look decent enough value at £29,495.

So does anyone actually know what changes, if any, have been made to the later 2.5 engines in these? Will we ever see the 2.0 in a UK STi? I see Subaru are offering 5 year warranty in the UK but are excluding the STi which only gets 3 years.
