Been on the hunt for a while now for Cheap Gas...and the quandary has been whether to buy a bottle outright and pay for gas fills, put a deposit on a bottle and pay for slightly more expensive fills or rent.

Today I found out about a very unknown deal with BOC, called the VolksZone deal. It is for a Y cylinder so approx. 25L, it is a rental but only approx. £35 for the year, and then £32 per fill.

Works out quite cheap compared to many of the others. Especially if you go and pick it up yourself, both cylinders fit in the back of a city-go smile Tig and Mig gas bottles.

I use an Adams Gas distributor, it's a £50 refundable deposit on the bottle, no rental and £34 for a fill (argoshield, 9litre bottle @ 140 bar)

Rent free is ideal if your only using it now and then, but very very pricey if your using lots of gas.

Do you have to be a volkzone member to get the deal?

Nope...you don't need to be a Volkzone member at all, I just went into the BOC shop yesterday and once my account had been set up it (that took about 20 minutes frown ) then it was all plain sailing from there on in. From looking at their retail prices it saves around 60%!

But at £30 per year...it is hardly classed as renting...not compared to a normal contract which is nearly £150 per year. Plus the gas is a lot cheaper. But as you say, it depends on how much you use the gas
