Auto dipping rear view mirror
Discussion
My Son is pestering me to install an auto dipping rear view mirror to his car. Is it as simple as ordering a mirror and running some cables to the mirror or are they controlled by some sort of ECU? Knowing the prevalence for manufacturers to control everything with an ECU these days, I wouldn't be surprised to find we also need to fork out for a black box.

No idea why he would want to, they are all manufacturer specific, you would need to find one suitable & give it a go, I think, the bmw ones have a sensor behind a little "window" in the mirror, but as to whether they are "stand alone" I have no idea.
Is it too far for him to reach or something?
I personally would rather mine weren't, I like to control everything in the car to my own personal likings, no tto someones generic idea of the best way!
Believe me I have been around this discussion with him time and time again. I am a great exponent of the Keep it Simple methodology. He likes gadgets for gadgets sake.Is it too far for him to reach or something?
