Mystery Engine Cut-Out Problem With No Fault Codes.
Discussion
i have a 07 daihatsu terios 1.5 (petrol) 22k.
engine cut-out on 3 occasions after driving less than 2 mile.
no dash lights & fuel gauge reading (ignition off) zero - main lights radio ok & it will crank over ok.
dash will return to normal engine will start after 3 min or 15 min.
MIL only lit on the first occasion but not on the others
rac rescue guy only found dtc u0156.
drove to official dealer today (no probs) & they also found no fault codes whatsoever with their specialized gear.
they also drove it for 25 mile with no problem.
would it be worthwhile for me to buy a scanner & keep it connected?
obviously it's a potentially dangerous fault & i'm reluctant to let my wife drive it.
any input appreciated?

Petrol?
Really need to see if it looses it spark next time, my guess would be crank shaft sensor
thanks for your reply - yes - petrol.Really need to see if it looses it spark next time, my guess would be crank shaft sensor
good suggestion but i think the "dead dash" is throwing everyone.
someone suggested that because of that it could be clearing any dtc's.
my main problem is safety - if it cannot be fixed then i can't sell it to anyone also it's too good to scrap.
also unfortunately "replace & try" is not an option due to parts availability.
