Installing core plugs

I have removed the old ones, which was an easier job than I imagined. Have cleaned out the recesses with a wire wheel attachment ready to put in the new ones.
My question is; is any ole rtv sealant ok to smear around the perimeter of the plugs before tapping them in with an apropriately sized socket? Or is there a certain kind of dogs bollards one you have to use?

Any other tips from those who have done it before are gratefully accepted
