Im only an amatuer so be patient with me please smile Chevrolet matiz 2008 plate 1.0l petrol 4 cylinder engine. 66k on the clock.

Having a bit of a strange issue with my car. Slight rough idle on start (slowly drops rev, suddenly surges then behaves normally) and occasionally hesitates in the lower gears (let off the accelerator for a second usually sorts it)

Now the only code that flags up is p0342 camshaft sensor voltage low. Now i cleared it to see if it would return, which it did. Ive replaced the sensor before clearing the code, which made no difference. The ive followed the wiring but can find no breaks or damage (suspected a bad earth). I did , however, find slight damage to my ballast resistor and was wondering if this would cause it? Alternatively maybe bad battery? Any help is super appreciated. Thanks.

I'm assuming it's a cable operated throttle on this?.
yes

What do you mean by slight rough idle? Is it misfiring or are the revs fluctuating up/down?
misfires, revs drop and just as its about to stall it surges past 1000. Sometimes does it 2 or 3 times before settling to a normal idle. Thats no demand at all.

What demand are you creating on the engine in lower gears when it hesitates, are you gunning it? Decelerating? Just cruising at set rpm/speed?
any acceleration when it happens. But its almost always when pulling away

How many pins do you have in your cam sensor?
3 pins .

What kind of damage have you found?
its broken with the coil inside still intact.
