The pipe goes from the head to the water pump. It's not too bad, just a little corroded and some coolant residue on it.

Is emery cloth the best thing?

Re the aluminum housing, I've a Dremel with a flap wheel would this do or too harsh?

try something a bit less aggressive, maybe a kitchen scourer pad?
Okay good idea, what sort of cleaner, would bathroom stuff like calgon be suitable.

All clean now. wink

It didn't need to shiny, just serviceable.
I chipped and scraped off the hard muck (calcified coolant?) then a kitchen scourer with some bathroom cleaner. A thin strip of old emery paper helped remove stubborn stuff from around the back where it was hard to get too.
