By VOSA,The Ministry ,the Police or as i call all of them The Feds ?

I found a piece of paper listing where and when i have been stopped for a roadside

check .

In about 14 years of driving trucks i have been stopped 9 times plus also once

before that whilst driving a Luton.

So how often have you been stopped ?

Have they ever found something wrong with the truck, your hours or overweight ?

To start off i was stopped on the M6 in 1999 in a 7.5 with a very overweight front axle.

I was fined £400 plus £87 costs

Over to you.

flagged red with vosa, so loads and loads of times,
This worries me slightly as i am the only driver who does walkaround checks every

morning and when a colleague gets stopped for that bulb out 5 minutes from the yard

all the fleet will be marked to be stopped.

I work with some of the biggest muppets ever.

3 are close to retirement ,so why would they care?furious

Colin, this is a stopped by a man with a little hammer, or stopped by traffic police and my charts inspected thread, I think...
Yes ,that was the idea being as it's in the Commercial section but it doesn't

really matter if others want to post their experiences with plod.smile

I used to work as a HGV2 driver delivering multidrop around London and the Home counties for about 6 years or so and I was never pulled or had any kind of trouble with the authorities (other than traffic wardens! grrrr..)
In central London you are always fairly safe as where are they going to set up

a HGV stop point and not cause chaos ?

Nearest to central London i have seen a stop point is on Blackheath going away from

Deptford as there is a suitable side road available to them.

M25 Reigate way spring to mind.
That one seems to be open daily.

It's actually at J9 ,Leatherhead and they have an Officer waiting on clockwise J8-9,

waiting for trucks to stop. They pull a lot of foreigners and have a sinbin for the

transgressors to stop in until put right.

Parp.

Going onto Vauxhall bridge this morning and Trafpol have a little checkpoint set up

in the buslane for trucks, got pulled in.

Checked my digi tacho card ,asked a few questions ,some of which were obviously testing

whether my details tallyed,"How tall are you ?..Where were you born ?"

and sent me on my way.

He didn't want to do any mechanical checks as it was raining !

It was only MOTed last Friday so shouldn't have had any problems there anyway...tongue out

No,they're random stops.

Turning off Vauxhall cross onto the bridge you can't see the stop point and they can't see you.

As soon as I turned I knew I was going in as there was a gap and he moved the cones in anticipation.

I also showed them the 2 stop sheets I carry with me .

This time the little hammer came out.

Told my manager I had been stopped again and he told me that the company is a "low risk " on the

Vosa (presumably) website.

Despite being stopped A LOT nothing has been found so we are clean ,for now.
