Hi all, been van driving for too long now, time to actually make a living from driving so planning on doing my class training all the way up to class one in a single hit. I found this on jobsite

http://www.jobsite.co.uk/job/train-to-be-a-hgv-dri...

Works out at £3600, includes theory, 16 hours training for class 2, class 2 test, 16 hours training for class 1, class 1 test, 2 re-tests if I fail with an additional 4 hours training, my CPC, tachometer card and a guaranteed job interview, the whole lot takes 16 weeks from start to finish and I can pay it off monthly if I want. Sounds ace? Anyone have any experience with this sort of thing? I think their projected earnings may be a little off for Cornwall but I do have an agency ready to take me on the day I pass my test for class 1 work £24000 pa.

Also, assuming I pass, what's the most profitable type of class 1 haulage? I really want to work my arse off and make this pay, I'm 29 with 3 kids, no mortgage, need to get cracking!

Cheers.

Wow thanks chaps, Celtic driver training is a full £1000 cheaper all the way to class 1 with all the trimmings except the job interview. I've sold my boat to free up monthly payments for finance but it it's that cheap I'll just pay it outright! Glad I asked now!

Agree about steering clear of this type of thing via an agency.
You could try Gregory Distribution, not sure how far they are from you but they were advertising for new drivers to be trained up from car licence, paid a salary from when you start training and then you repay them via your wage every month with, I suspect, a clause in your contract regarding full payment should you decide to leave early. At least this way you are fully employed rather that literally being the agencies biatch.
I spoke to Gregory, they advertised 3 weeks ago, within 2 days they had over 200 applications, they're obliged to offer 8 positions a month so there's a chance but not sure I can wait that long for what could be an age. I'm knocking on 30 still earning sweet f.a. So need to get cracking!

Seems to be around £24k for class 1, I have a few friends in the right places luckily, think there's a bit of an issue in deep west cornwall when It comes to finding people with a CPC from what I've heard.
