Sorry if this is the wrong forum, but it seemed the closest....

My 7 year old son has been enjoying walking / camping over the summer, and he's expressed in an interest in wild camping. I've promised him we can do some, but he needs to carry some of the kit himself!

Anyone got any experience of suitable backpacking rucsacs for kids (rather than school bag type rucsacs)? I'm thinking something around 10L would be enough for him to fit in some kit (maybe compressed sleeping bag and some spare clothes) without being too heavy for an hour or two walking? I want him to feel like he's doing some of the work, without it being so large / heavy that it puts him off...

I was thinking something like this

Thanks guys. To be honest the question was as much about whether it was a daft idea as about the product itself- I guess the fact you're making positive suggestion means it's not a daft idea! I'll get myself down to go outdoors on the weekend with 5lbs of sand to weigh him down a bit ;-)

You can load his bag with both your sleeping bags & maybe sleep mats so it looks really bulky but weighs next to nothing wink
Pretty sure he could carry a 15-20ltr sack no problem.
Righty Ho, that's my full on winter expedition bag going in :-) He can go wild camping if he wants, I'm going toastie ;-)
