In its whole entirety.

Of Mice and Men, is probably the closest I got. That was in school.
Where would you start?

Hi, thanks for all the replys. Some good suggestions.
I don't know why it is I've never read a book. People say you get gripped and can't put a book down but it's just never happened with me. I think I may try and find a Dahl short stories book that sounds like it may be a nice way to start.
I do have 'Alive' the story of the rugby players that crashed. I started it a while back, maybe I should pick it back up.

And the original novel of "Jurassic Park" (Michael Crichton) was much better than the movie.

But if a fast paced action movie of a book is what's required, try out Matthew Reilly's Scarecrow series. Utter nonsense. If you could imagine the cheesiest b-movie plotted special effects ridden films, these are the book equivalent. They even have diagrams and maps so the reader requires no imagination at all.
Just waiting for them to arrive, who knows it could be the start of a long relationship.

How's the OP got on with his purchases?

Just read my first Jack Reacher (Nothing to Lose, two towns - Hope & Despair. Mentioned earlier I think).

Started straight away on the other one I got from the library (Worth Dying For).

Good fun, will probably go on and hunt some more down.
Well I'm halfway through my first book, Scarecrow and I'll be honest I'm really enjoying it. smile

I'm only reading a few pages at a time. The one thing I can't help thinking when I'm reading it though is 'this would make a great film' is this a bit wrong? hehe

I've also picked up a few more books from car boots, Richard Hammonds biography, and a James May book as well.

Well I've done it, I finished my first book in a long time. Scarecrow, and I really enjoyed it. Thanks for the recommendation.
I've now started Jurasic Park but finding it a bit slow to be honest. I think I might move on to one of the others I've bought, Richard Hammonds autobiography possibly?

"Jurrasic Park" slow?

Blimey - I thought it raced along. Shows how different people's brains can be.
Well I've read some more and I realised that what I first read was just the introduction.
Seems a lot better now I'm reading the proper story.

Just thought I'd pop back in, as I was reminded of you, having picked up "Scarecrow and the Army of Thieves" by Matthew Reilly at the library the other day.

I can definitely understand any other books seeming slow to begin with after reading one of his. It's relentless BANG-BANG-BANG stuff. Not a slow burning period drama with a number of delicate sub plots, but good fun for a day or two.

What are you going on to next?
Hi, well I'm just coming to the end of Jurassic Park. Yes I know, I'm a slow reader. smile

I have enjoyed it not as good as Scrarecrow and the main problem is I pretty much know what's coming next because of the film.

Bored and looking through some old threads, and came across this.

Have you read much more over the last year?
Only a few, but that's more than none. smile

A few more Mathew Reilly.

I'm currently 3/4 through World War Z. I haven't seen the film yet so I can be one of these "it's not as good as the book" people. biggrin

How about Bear Grylls Mud Sweat & Tears.

I saw this in a charity shop the other day and almost bought it.

I've finished World War Z now and really enjoyed it. I also watched the film, which seems to have absolutely nothing to do with the book?

I've now just started Sherlock Holmes, 56 short stories. Totally different to the books I've read so far. I'll keep going but if I dint enjoy the Bear Grylls could be a good option. :-)
