Books for Holiday

I'm going to buy a kindle to keep down the weight for my upcoming holiday... I need some books to add to it. I don't read a lot so the chances are I won't have read whatever you recommend.

I like biographies, true stories and accounts of modern war (since WW2), flight, engineering, cars (obviously) etc. I read a book that I had seen recommended about someone's experience of learning to fly a Thruster, which I enjoyed because it was relevant to me at the time as well.

Can you think of a couple worth a read?
