They fascinated me as a kid. Interesting due to their frightening nature, like venemous snakes I suppose (for me anyway )

Anyone know how they work exactly, how they are created etc if there are many in the UK. Do they come and go, or are there any permanent spots in the UK?

I used to have horrible nightmares when i was a lad about quicksand .. the thought still scares the sh1t out of me
Yeah, same. Not nightmares (so its not the same I suppose ) but mega fascination and fear at the very idea! Hence, we tried to build one (but sadly a cat got stuck and drowned in the one we built ). We eventually kept our own special "swamp clothes" which we wore when we went swamping

Oh the fun we had exploring and wallowing in swamps I dont suppose anyone wants to start a regular swamp meet? Er, ok, maybe not

The book Papillion (as well as being a Fantastic read) has an incredibly gripping quick sand scene, left me chilled for hours after reading that part!
