Will Buxton, via Twitter:

"...Alonso/Vettel seat swap being reported in Italy."

Yes, Alonso is unhappy with the performance of the car and Vettel is unhappy at being out performed by Danny.

Yes, Redbull could afford Alonso.

But what does Vettel get out of it, apart from being a Ferrari driver?

Alonso to Lotus - as I said in my original thread title 'silly season'!

Anyway who changed my thread title? Might have been good manners to ask/let me know?

When I started this topic with the thread title 'Silly season'* I did think it was just the Italian press doing what they do best!

But as it turns out it may not be that silly so I'll have a go.

The only thing we know, for sure, is that Vettel will not be a Redbull F1 driver next year, everything else is speculation.

So how about Vettel driving for the Nissan WEC team?

Nissan are a Redbull sponsor so it would link and as far as I know the Nissan WEC team haven't announced any drivers or sponsors.

  • Gaz has admitted to editing my title so I'd suggest that he knows more than he's saying wink

So Alonso confirmed to me on @NBCSN that he would not have @MercedesAMGF1 power in his 2015 car.

Gilles was the epitome of everything a racing driver should be: fast, brave (he was a little too brave, alas), spectacular, determined, apolitical, honest and fair. He remains the greatest racing driver I've ever seen.

Totally agree.

Nigel Roebuck obituary:

I'd also suggest younger members search out more info about Gilles.
One quote stands out to me - Gilles had crashed:
Did you run out of road?
No, I ran out of lock!

Keke alway said Gilles was the hardest bd he raced against but totally fair.

Sorry for the very O/T post!

One bit of that should be read by all drivers:

"Two races earlier, at Monza, Scheckter had clinched the World Championship, Villeneuve honourably following him over the line, declining to keep his own title hopes alive. “I’d given my word,” Gilles said, “and I don’t break it.”"

He should have his own thread really because he was, in my opinion, one of the best ever.

He will never be forgotten.
I agree we need a Gilles thread.

I wouldn't say he was the best driver but he was IMHO the fastest driver ever to drive a race car.

As they say - some drive race cars but some are racing drivers.

I've been out all day but my Wife was watching the WEC race. Apparently Graham Goodwin said that he/they (meaning other journalists?) had been asked not to say anything but when the news broke it would be epic for sports car racing.

Jenson and Fred to WEC? eeksmile

McLaren have just tweeted this:

Guys, we know you're awaiting news on our driver line-up. We'll announce after Dec 1 – you'll hear it here first. All eyes now on Abu Dhabi.
