As a massive Button fan I really hope this isn't his last season in F1. I still think he has so much to offer and
he will be a big loss to F1. I have everything crossed he can get a contract but its not looking good I fear.
Going to the British Grand Prix and after party just isn't going to be the same if he isn't there.

Jenson's post-match interview with a Sky was depressing.

He didn't actually admit that he won't be at McLaren next year, but he referred to "the team" working with Honda next season, rather than "we". He made little attempt to disguise his disappointment.

What a shame frown.
Yep it really is looking like the end of his F1 career now. Strong rumors on twitter now saying Alonso will announce he has signed with Mclaren tomorrow too. I really am going to miss Jenson if indeed this his last season. What a stty way to bow out.

If Jenson leaves McLaren that will be the end of my support , after last weekends brilliant drive he deserves to stay !!! Sick of supporting a second rate team , cannot believe they are taking on Alonso after everything that went on !!
That is how I feel too. What is holding this decision up? Alonso knows what he is doing by the sounds of it or he is he bluffing?

McLaren racing director Eric Boullier says Jenson Button is not racing for a place in the 2015 team despite uncertainly over next season's line-up.

"We don't need him to deliver an extra job on track to - let's say - save his job," Boullier said.

"We know the value of Jenson and we know he is a world champion-class driver and he has been a world champion already."

"I understand obviously that (Button) may not feel comfortable and obviously he's concerned about his future," Boullier added.

"I'm in charge of McLaren Racing and we have to build the best for the team. Drivers are obviously very important in the discussion and Jenson is more than considered to stay with us for the long term.

"But we are still investigating what we want to do with our driver line-up, once we have all the data in our hands."
Looks like Alonso is playing hard to get in a long term contract then?

If Button swallowed a brave-pill, he'd give McLaren two (insert other suitably short timescale) days notice to make a deal or there will be no deal.
I wonder how sure they are of getting Alonso, and how much would they risk being without Button or the devious Spaniard next year....??
Do you know I think you are on to something there. Mclaren are handling this situation terribly and are showing no respect to Button. I bet if you took a vote at the factory I am pretty sure Alonso isn't on their want list.

0I enjoyed the sentiment, but Jenson Button is far more deserving than the champion t*rd that is this year's Ferrari (not that this year's McLaren is a dream drive...).

Yes, I'm British so I am naturally predisposed to a British driver, but I think he is a massive asset to any team:

1) he is, by any measure, a "bloody talented" driver;

2) he is massively experienced, to the extent that he has the knowledge and confidence to question the team over pit calls etc;

3) he is massively experienced, so in these days of restricted testing, any team should listen to his feedback in the testing that you are allowed;

4) he is, to my mind, massively marketable - very open, eloquent and engaging - a sponsor's dream and an ambassador for his team, its sponsors, and the sport in general.

For the avoidance of any doubt, I'm a fan...
So agree. Alonso will make the car go no faster than Jenson can. Such a stupid decision to replace Jenson.

Shocking if it's Jenson's final race and he doesn't get a proper send off.
Bearing in mind the PR disaster that this becoming for McLaren, would they really allow that to happen, or perhaps this means he's not going anywhere?
Yep may be Jenson is staying? Surely they wouldn't let his last season come to an insulting end like this and not give him and us fans a nice send off and finale?

Already started looking at race dates for WEC 2015 biggrin
+1. After another farcical day I am doing the same tonight. Have always fancied Le-Mans and the more this pathetic saga goes on I am slowly turning to the idea of Jenson in this series. Mclaren really are fking this whole thing up and if in miracle way JB signs next year with them my support for the team will be greatly reduced. I would hate to see JB treated the same way Webber was when he had to bow down to Vettel. To see Alonso dictate the running of the team would be bloody disgusting. So yes WEC for Jenson is slowly appealing to me all the time.

+1. I will still follow Button of course and think the team he is driving for have lost a lot of respect. I want Button in F1 and if it has to be Mclaren then so be it.

Well well. Daily Mail saying the same.
