You can quite clearly see Massa open up the steering as he sees Alonso beside him. Alonso simply drives into him after that...now need to see Alonso's onboard to confirm if he was trying to do something funny or if his natural trajectory took him so wide. I suspect the former.

Although he takes the corner normally, he does a little jink before that (which seems to be the 'standard' way of adjusting the trajectory of the car in situations like this, creating 'understeer' ). Wily old fox, seemed to have made it look right at the limit. I hate him!!
if you look closely you see Massa's wheel connect with the rear of Alonso's wheel & Alonso's hands turn/snap clockwise on impact ...that would've compromised his turn & corner exit somewhatETA: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RzaTUEwk0LY

the problem imho isn't observing/respecting track limits by drivers ...it's the lack of info that's being given to the public from the driver briefing, where the drivers are told by Charlie where they can/can't exceed them (& this has always been a part of F1! well ever since i've been watching from the early 80's)
Why anyone would want to enforce a rigid 'stay within the whitelines, regardless' policy is beyond me, because the knock on effects will be drivers being far far more cautious & frankly, we need things to make F1 less dull not more
As to Massa/Alonso, no idea why the stewards took a look, maybe they do now when there is any form of contact, regardless? personally i thought it was more of Massa closing the door or not realising someone was next to him, rather than Alonso punting him out of the way.
& no, Rosberg shouldn't have got a penalty for the Malaysia incident either ...although the cynic in me thinks that was more about curtailing any future deliberate 'punts' as we head towards the season finale

nah, the only differences between them was Rosberg/Kimi wasn't exactly wheel to wheel (hence the damage) ...& Austin wasn't on Derek Warwick's watch
Which raises the question, why don't we have the same stewards for each race? surely it's not that hard/expensive to have the same panel at each race every 2 weeks?
