For all that Ted Kravitz is a complete tube, in amongst the drivel he does occasionally represent the ordinary fan. Whilst pushing Ross Brawn on his future ideas RB suddenly came out with this golden nugget;

My dream actually would be to have a none championship race once a year. And that none championship race you could experiment, so you could try a different format for one race....try something else

I'm pretty certain RB isn't meaning his none championship race would be "anything goes" in terms of a completely different car.

It would be a chance to try out things like the 2016 qualifying debacle away from the championship, or a new standardised front and rear wing for instance.

I think people are assuming too much from his statement - back in the 60s/70s non-championship races were a regular feature on the calendar. They featured cars to standard F1 spec, but the format of the races differed from a Grand Prix i.e. shorter, different tracks etc. I don't think Brawn is suggesting a race where the technical spec differs very much if at all from standard F1 - the teams simply don't have the budget for that
This completely!
