Best used car under 4k?
Discussion
Haven't had the best car history from being very very poor and so picking the conviently cheap used cars,
I've now just seen my 4th car in two years die after the head completly went a couple of weeks ago. (rover 25, whats new there)
I've come into a windfall and just wonder what all you folks would say is the best/most reliable used car under £4k?

Honda civic (post 2002 model), Ford mondeo diesel or an MX5 aren't that bad in that price range and the civic shouldn't break the bank insurance wise.
cool beans liking the civic thanks xx focus too. how are the younger renault meganes (Hatchbacks 04 onwards)? did have coupe a few months ago, but it was aged and so MOT was a complete disaster. how do the phase two's fair? is there much of a difference?
How about a Mini One. Low insurance (group 5 in old money). They handle great, are fairly zippy and we used to get about 45mpg on a run.
Ive found a few with under 60k miles and at about £3.5k
Usually serviced well due to the TLC package sold by BMW for the first five years servicing. A few known faults but generally reliable......

I think you will find those terms are usually mutually exclusive. The best car for under 4k - probably an E36 M3 EVO.
Most reliable car for under 4k - probably a Honda Jazz or Toyota Corolla.

I can vouch for the civic!I have a 2002 1.6,had mine for almost 3 years, and its only EVER been to the garage for services. Its on 85K miles now,and shows no signs of giving up!Also fairly economical on the mileage.how are the younger renault meganes (Hatchbacks 04 onwards)? did have coupe a few months ago, but it was aged and so MOT was a complete disaster. how do the phase two's fair? is there much of a difference?
I agree the post 2002 models look nicer, and you'd get a good one for your £4K,but if you want to save some of you money,a pre facelift model is a winner!

as to what car i'm looking for, economical and low insurance is best but still... it has to shift when i need her too.
mondeo is out of my insurance range
Skoda fabia VRS, great cars, though may have about 70k miles at £4k.mondeo is out of my insurance range
Maybe a Panda 100HP if one comes up cheap enough, although most are a little over budget.
Or save a few quid and give a Suzuki Ignis sport a go. They get good reviews on here.
