Looking at chopping in my Outback in the near future, as much as I love it, and can't make up my mind between the X5, RX, Cayenne and Touareg.

In fact, the Outback's tempted to stick with the old Japs and go for an RX. Looking at spending around £12k-£15kish. X5s kind of bore me now and all the toys in the RX seem to be floating my boat. Though that's probably me just getting older. boxedin

What would you go for?

Range Rover is like driving a big wobbly boat.
Avoid… unless you like wobbly boats.

Take a look at a Discovery 3. It’s a bloody nice big 4x4 and you should get one on your budget.
If you want more of a car feel than a 4x4 feel then have a look at the Audi Q5 or Q7.
Discovery 3 had kind of slipped off the radar. No idea why.

Problem is the Outback is bloody good. Just getting a bit long in the tooth. But it's also now worth next to bugger all.

wouldnt have an X5 or RX.

Cayenne best on road by a country mile and actually (a bit tyre dependant) astonishing off road. looks arent to everyones taste and mpg isnt great
I actually like the looks of the Cayenne. It's just the running costs that give me the willies.

The RX will keep going when all those are in the scrappies and will be the cheapest to run, no one will think you are a tosser and it's a bit quick if you go for the 400h.

I had the 2.5 tdi toureg and rx400 at the same time so I would always be inclined to go for the Lexus first then toureg after then x5 then cayenne.
Interesting you had both. Was the RX far and away better than the VW?

Well keep the outback until it dies

Which will be a very long time

Or are you going to spend £15K on a new car incase you have to spend £500 on the outback
Think you might have hit the nail on the head. The lure of something shiny and new was proving tempting.

Slept on it. Definitely fancy a Cayenne S, facelift 2007 model. Reckon they'll be within budget in 6 months. smile
