Audi A1 S-tronic - Opinions & Alternatives?

Thinking out loud a little here and searching doesn't seem to like 2 character search terms, but I'm still debating changing cars, and I keep coming back to rather liking the Audi A1.

Is there anything out there, or imminent that is small, 3 door, reasonably nippy in real world terms, and without wanting to sound too pretentious, has a bit of quality about it in that dull way that Audi do?

I'd also be interested in any feedback from owners.

I like it, it's easily the most premium of any supermini and feels really well put together. Looks nice also and well equipped. Interior space a little tight but it's roomy enough. Running costs are very low with excellent fuel economy, cheap tax, 5 year servicing pack and residuals forecast to be strong.

Having also owned SEAT and VWs, you can see where the extra money goes.

Thanks for that, which engine please and how do you do against the published figures?

I've just been looking at the brochure on the new A3 and that appears to have increased significantly in price.
