Fiesta ST prices & specs revealed

Ford finally puts a price on the head of its new fast Fiesta

The new Fiesta ST will cost £16,995 when it goes on sale in spring. That’s the news from blue oval HQ this morning, and it means the Fiesta looks set to be a bit of a hot hatch bargain, much like its bigger brother, the Focus ST.

New ST will hit 60 in 6.9sec

That price pitches it below rivals like the Seat Ibiza Cupra and Mini Cooper S, both of which produce similar power and performance figures, while the more powerful Renault Clio RS and Peugeot 208 GTI are expected to cost considerably more. In fact, the ST will even undercut Skoda's Fabia vRS which, assuming it drives as well as we're expecting, could make it the best value small hot hatch on the market.

That’s not all, though: Ford has given us a little more detail on the first petrol turbo Fiesta since the somewhat frenetic RS Turbo of the early ’90s. We already knew that the new car’s 1.6-litre EcoBoost engine will produce 180hp and 177lb ft, and Ford now tells us that it’ll give the ST a 0-60 time of 6.9sec and a top speed of 136mph. What’s more, three-door enthusiasts will be happy to hear that that’ll be the only variant we’ll get over here – while there will be a five-door option, it’ll only be available across the pond.

Think I'll wait for the Clio. Why are they not matching the power from the rivals? Seems strange, the focus seems to lead the way on power levels and the fiesta never does. It's always lagging behind.

Wouldn't be surprised if Renault didn't start their own official tuning arm (Alpine tuned would be nice) especially as NISMO is now fettling the same lump in the Juke.

There all models that have been out for a while. Models that are on the horizon have 200bhp. I'm not a horsepower freak, bhp figures aren't everything but I just feel like Ford could do more with it. Like I said, the focus seems to always lead not follow. I have a Cooper S lump so I'm not saying 180ish isn't bad, its just Ford seems to always hold back the Fiesta when it really could be more.

Obviously my point goes wasted on some of you. Read my point properly then comment. Its like Porsche holding back the Boxster to not step on the toes of the 911. I just don't think Ford has made it all that it could be. I stand corrected if there is an RS Fiesta on the cards.

It has been in many a publication and websites/forums of how much power the chassis could possibly handle (much more than a lot of rivals) and it obvious straight away how many people are out there wanting more power by straight away mentioning remaps and mountune. Ford in fairness has probably done it on purpose to get a bit of money thrown there way for a bit of factory tuning, which then starts to eat away at their price advantage. How good is that basic spec of Fiesta ST against the Fabia for example because the basic Focus ST isn't exactly filled with toys.

My car has got the same power (and is a lot heavier) and is perfectly adequate. I just think with the direction the Focus ST and the previous Focus RS's had gone, Ford should have pushed the Fiesta ST a little further.

The Clio may be 20k but I bet the equipment wont be all that bad and they obviously have the DSG box to cover. As stated previously spec a Fiesta up and with a mountune remap to match the Clio power your talking 20k and I bet with the current luck of Renault at the moment that you would get much bigger discounts on the forecourt(Mentioned in a previous post that there are currently no offers on the Focus ST) How much can you get knocked off a Megane RS nowadays?

But proofs in the pudding, the Fiesta might run circles round the Clio. Lets wait for the group tests. I may have to stow my tits yet.
