Any reason why this should not be okay? I do a low annual mileage and change oil once a yr, always used branded stuff before. Fully synthetic is only £20 for 5L smile

I did buy some 20/50 cheap from Wilco's once, needed a top up and this was the nearest place. It was like water so sat on the shelf and used for dashpots and stuff frown

Most of the fully synthetic grades (e.g. 0W30) are like water but 20W50 would be like treacle by comparison, very unlike water!

As for the whether the Asda oil is ok, you could just check the various manufacturers specifications that are normally listed on the container.
Belive me the Wilco stuff was very nasty looking, usually use Halfords Classic 20/50

£20 seems quite expensive for what I feel you consider to be a cheap end oil. I pay about that for Valvoline 20-50 racing oil (fully synthetic is a similar price) from Eurocar Parts, this is of course when they offer discounts which is normally all the time. I get cheap 20-50 for my MGB for about £10 for 5 litres, I change it quite often though as the car doesn't do much mileage which will do more damage to the oil.
Thanks you're quite right thumbup

just checked eurocar parts Triple 5w40 QX synthetic (£12.49 for 5l) meets the MB 229.4 spec. smile

The last time Halfords had an offer on synthetic oil, it was by far the cheapest.

Incidentally I needed a sump plug washer, 80p from ECP with free delivery. They sent it overnight, signed and tracked via UPS, that's service. ECP do seem a bit random with delivery policy.

actually I don't like signed for deliveries, it's only by luck I'm in, I'd rather they just popped stuff through the letter box or left it in the porch
