Guys ,

Just bought a brand new car for well into 6 figures and it turns out its had a door painted - paint is pitted in some places with some sinkage and paint depth gauge confirms its been repainted - my detailer picked up on it today. Waited 18 months for delivery.

What are your options when you take delivery of a brand new car for well over £100k and the dealer forgets to tell you that not only have they painted it but they then paint it badly too?

Appreciate if anyone has ever been in a similar situation to share their experience.

Thanks in advance.

Imi

Depends what it is.

An overspec'd VAG branded car or RR ? Meh, no one cares.

Italian exotica ? Yes it's an issue, it's been pranged and covered up and could potentially affect the resale value.

Why not just talk to the dealer, point out it's been poorly resprayed, voice your concerns and let them rectify it in an amicable way....
Hmm I've asked them for an explanation and solution but radio silence all day from the dealer - personally I'm not happy buying a new car for £100k which has been painted - don't care what type of car it is to be honest doesn't make difference in my opinion. If I haven't heard from them by close of play tomorrow will raise it with customer service.

It wa so badly painted that you didn't notice it when you took delivery? Frankly, from your short description, something sounds amiss. You waited 18 months and spent well into 6 figures and you weren't over the car like a rash when it finally turned up?

And how do you know the dealer painted it?

Maybe the 'detailer' fked it up and burned the paint himself.
paint is far thicker on that particular door and detailer had not started work on it when it was pointed out to me - on delivery a few days ago didn't think about it twice to be honest never had an issue on a new car like this - with hindsight should have paid more attention

Wonder if dealer even knew.

Think how many people get in and out of the car before the dealer even touches it. How many hands before it leaves the factory? Factory to dock (if foreign) Dock to ferry. Ferry to transporter. transporter to holding yard. yard to transporter. transporter to dealer. dealer staff (valeter, pdi tech, sales gopher) Lots of places for a door to get bumped and repaired badly on the sly.

Sensible chat first.
Extrapolate from there if needed IMO
yep v.possible

AMG Merc. Woeful buying experience - honestly the most average dealer I've ever had to deal with. Nice people just not very clued up on their own AMG products. Mrs is over the moon with the car but this door thing has taken the gloss off excuse the pun!!

Dealer said if it had been repaired it happened at factory. Nought we can do about it. Simple quality control issue. Naked eye can't see the defect unless UV light on the very small patch on door. Annoying but we have to live with it. Mercedes average to deal with and wouldn't buy another of their cars. Even got the wrong alloys on the car. Asked if we could retro order the wheels we had ticked the option box on and first response was £300 towards them. They were trying to be clever as if you order the optional alloys new they are only £500 extra. If you order them afterwards £4k. Just average service all round.

Hold on, you can't even see this blemish with the naked eye unless it's under a UV lamp?

So.... Um.....

Wow.
You can see it if you go close up to it and have good eyes. My eye aren't brill. Paint depth gauge says the paint on the spot which is blown in is 4x as thick as on the rest of the car. Not good enough on any new car IMO.
