Hi guys,

Time has come to replace my parents trusty mk1 ford focus 1.8 tdci. They have owned it for over 4 years now and it has been a reliable car. We are considering the Almera 2.2dci as a replacement. What are these like? I know it will be much more powerful than their focus. Also there is slight confusion on whether this is a Renault or Nissan engine. Would like to now past/present owners views on the car and what they are like such as are they reliable.

How much should they expect to pay for a decent example?

Thanks for reading.

Is this a common problem the turbo?

Does anyone have other suggestion about what car I can replace the focus with.

Not a lot for sale. What other cars should i consider in the same price bracket as the Almera.

do they need a diesel? ive found my 1.5 petrol nissan to be plenty reliable to date and its getting 38mpg combined and it may also be for sale ;-)
To be honest I have thought about the 1.5 but diesels seem to be more refined compared to 4 cylinder petrol's.

if its within forum rules can you give me a link to your car.

Budget would be around 1500 pounds but could stretch up for a good car. It will just be everyday car as they have a E60 530d as their motorway cruiser. What's the mk4 pd 130 like?

Just had a quick test drive in mates pd130 and honestly I think this will suit my parents better. What do I need to look out on these. I know these 130 are the best variants in gt tdi due to having both performance and reliability. In their price budget these tend to be high mileage, what should i be wary of when going to view some examples.

Thanks

Yep i understand where your coming from regarding another big diesel. The reason for this is diesels tend to feel more refined compared to petrol 4 pots. I have recently bought a mint polo 6n2 1.4 and i offered them that as a runaround but they did not like it and i understand coming from a diesel the polo wasn't as refined. Reading up on the Almera they are not that great and tend to be problematic so i have turned my search to a VW Golf mk4 gt tdi 130pd.

Thinking about an Almera will be a downgrade from the focus. This is one of the reasons why i have turned my search to a Golf mk4 GT TDI and also due to the reliability of the PD engines.

What's your views on the mk4 PD130 and what do i need to look out for mechanically.

Thanks

The focus mk2 is another car i have been looking at due to how great the mk1 has served them as a runaround. It all depends on if i can find a decent example in the golf or focus. I am going to be viewing a golf later in the day hopefully and see what it is like.
