Hi,

I was driving our Qashqai (1.5 Diesel) home from a weekend away and I notice what I thought was clutch slip on the motorway.

Everytime I accelerated the revs would instantly jump up from 2000 to around 3500 and slowly decrease to what it should be.

3 hours after journey's end and took the car out again and it was fine.

It is fine again today, I have tried WOT in high gears up hills and it is fine (revs build gradually in line with acceleration). Pulling away briskly in 1st and 2nd is also fine.

So why would clutch slip disappear? What else could it be?

Thanks.

Had this on a diesel Passat, it was the intial symptons of the Dual Mass Flywheel failing and actually took about a year to fully fail.
Interesting point, these make a noise when they aren't happy don't they?

I thought the engine sounded extra dieselly when under load before this starting happening.

It was during a 103 mile trip, half of that on a hilly Welsh A road overtaking the odd caravan.

It was on this road I noticed extra noise, it sounded like the normal Diesel Knock, but louder.

Once on the motorway it starting slipping.

I have looked through the services history and it had a new clutch and clutch cylinder 14,000 miles ago, which is one of the reasons I bought it?

Also just spoke to a Nissan Dealer explaining the problem and he didn't mention the DMF, when I asked if it could be the cause he immediately ruled it out stating "Not on the Qashqai", odd.

Looks like I'll just have to forget about it, but it's bugging me.

I has done 122,000 miles!

I thought I'd take a chance on a high mileage but relatively young car, for a change (3.5 years old).

Clutch work was done at 108,000 miles and there is no other work prior to this in the extensive service history.

One previous (company) owner.

But the new clutch has done less than 15,000 miles.

If the first one lasted for 100,000+ it shows it was driven well.

Maybe it has had a cheap one fitted.
