Engine remap doubes my insurance quotes!!! Any tips?
Discussion
Hi,
So I'm looking to buy a 'Renault Megane r26 F1 Team'
Confused.com & gocompare, quotes are jumping from £300/yr to over £600/yr if I get it remapped!!!
Any tips on where to go to get a decent insurance quote?
Really want to get it remapped, as apparently it turns into a 'weapon'!

Thanks for the Greenlight tip. I'll check it out.
No, I'm not Scott Alexander... Why would I be? Just read a reviewer's description of it as being transformed into a 'weapon' when remapped. Thought it sounded pretty amusing... actually it was probably the R26.R they were reviewing, but never mind.

Looks like i opened a can of worms here.
I called Greenlight, who said that their premium would come down a lot after a year of owning the car.
Having shopped for quotes with and without a map, i expect the insurers now have it on record that I'd be interested in mapping it, and therefore might check in the event of a claim, so I guess I'll have to be above board.
To those saying don't map it. Have you got any other suggestions for a £7000 car that will do 30mpg and keep up with any other hot hatch out there?
