Drove at the speed limit through a 30 (on a main road) behind a Saab Estate, was sat a fair way back, went to 40, still behind in the 40 bit, the road opens to two lanes across the lights, which were on red, so decide to hang back and go to lane two, Saab stops and I, because I had hung back kept going, put my foot down and overtook, got to about 50 and then backed off as there are roadworks, a pub and an upcoming junction at which I turn right, Saab come up the inside and driver shouts "Tosser" at me but I couldn't see why, I hadn't had any confrontation or got in his way, could it be just I am in an open Sports Car with a fairly loud exhaust ?

[quote=mwstewart]You do come across that way on here, so maybe it was something else you did without being aware of it?[/quote

Really, based on what ?

I hung right back, way observing speed limits and just gave it a squirt in second, got nowhere near him ?

You get all sorts of reactions when you overtake. A lot of people don't like it, even though there is nothing wrong with it. I wouldn't worry about it.
He was behind another car that was turning left so it wasnt a overt overtake, just me not wanting to wait behind, standard practice.

I will counter that, by pointing out that I have known you for over ten years and you haven't ever come across as a tosser to me, and Im difficult and broadly unfriendly.

MJ85 appears to be a bit of a cock-end.
Cheers GC8, was actually MStewart pointing out what a tosser I am biggrin

I can be, no doubt about it, but this time, I was being fairly meek.

Maybe he thought you had an emergency hair appointment to attend in the convertible and was jealous of your hairdressing skills!

Next time you should really hang back even further and wait for everyone to get to their destination before these risky right turn manoeuvres.

Pretty soon there will be a campaign to ban turning right although the Daily Mail will be against this as a Left Wing plot.
Hmm, I really do need a haircut.

The guy was probably the tosser and it was just jealousy.
Jesus, he must be really living the dream if me in seven grands worth ageing Nissan inspires jealousy !

Not had any negativity in three years of convertible ownership, so was probably due a little, did consider following but what
would be the point, never ends well.

You knew you were going to turn right soon, but you overtook?
Pretty pointless.....
No, he was stopped, I had a free lane to use and quarter of a mile before I was turning, plus its summer, I had the roof down and a moderately powerful V6 to enjoy, not a crime, yet.

I would guess it's because you went in front only to turn right a short distance later and presumably made him slow down whilst you turned.

Maybe I've interpreted wrongly but it does sound a bit pointless as overtakes go.
Like I said, was a fair distance and the next junction was two lanes as well, I was queuing in my lane to turn right and he slowed down to make his point !

Just to confirm, when you were waiting to turn right he wasn't held up behind you, it was 2 lanes?
No, not at all, his lane was free, he slowed down and shouted tosser, he had not been delayed one iota, apart from taking the time to shout at me !

90mph on the limiter in 3rd isn't "about 50" sir...
No limiters were harmed in the making of this story, was literally, slow down, change down to second, get across lights then put foot down to regain lost speed, prob 4500 revs, into third, then fourth and then take it easy, building site to the left, new pub to the right, too much going on, not on a mission as afternoon on a sunny day, too many people about, too easy to arrive at stuff going too fast and look like a tosser !

Did you hold him up when you turned right?

Really gets on my tits when somebody overtakes me then stops to turn.
No, I overtook in a two lane bit, it goes bck to one, then opens out again for the junction, I indicated and waited behind the one other car there.

Just seems bizarre, have, like most people done stuff and thought I could be reasonably be called a tosser, but this wasnt one of those occasions.
