Hi all
I have recently got a new job which requires me to commute on twisty slow B roads and the 28 mpg from.my old 2.0 mondeo is not cutting the mustard to be honest.so the desicion has been made to purchase a small diesel with hope of at least 60sh mpg..Budget will be no more than 2k max. I have taken to the 1.9 tdi vw polo's which I think should fit the bill nicely.any body got any experience with these preferbably I think the 110 and 130 bhp models.all other suggestions are welcome to.
Sorry about another what car.but you guys seem the best to ask. So to summerise
1.6 + tdi diesel
A bit of poke so it's not to boring
No more more than 2k
Around polo size
Thank you for any help

I think 60MPG in conditions when your Mondeo's only doing 28 is a big ask. - Some recent cars may do it but I doubt you'll be able to buy one for circa £2k. The problem is that small diesels are in demand at the moment and so the prices are therefore high (big petrols are a bargain now). I used to commute much further than I do now and had a Citroen C4 Coupé 1.6HDI. That did about 50 MPG on a B-road commute and it's a much more interesting car than a Polo etc. Reliability was pretty good - only minor niggles.
I'm starting to belive that 60 mpg was a bit optimistic.50 ish is more realistic.starting to like the golfs now but they all seem to be 100k + in our price range.will keep hunting something ideal will turn up ...
