£100K Garage: James Fowler

James appears to like German cars. He really, really likes German cars in fact!

Name: James Fowler
Previously owned: VW Corrado VR6 (brilliant!), Audi A3 Quattro, various embarrassing rubbish beforehand.
Currently owned: BMW 330d M Sport
On the shortlist: "I did want to find a nice 997 Turbo (a manual in black with ceramics) but there didn't seem to be one. I was also going to include an Audi RS6 Avant but I figured the S6 would be 85-90 per cent of the car for a lot less cash."

Audi S6
Cost:
£12,490
Balance: £87,510
Why I chose it: "I've always liked Audis and these S6s seem great value, especially when compared to RS6s. It's still a saloon with a 5.2-litre V10, 4WD and its under £13K! This one's done just under 100,000 miles so is both fresh enough to use without worrying constantly about reliability. It's old and discreet enough to avoid thinking about where it's left, wrong type of attention, people thinking you're a flash git etc."

Porsche 928 GTS
Cost: £34,995
Balance: £52,515
Why I chose it: "I've always loved 928s and for me the GTS is the ultimate incarnation. With just over 40K miles this one is hardly run in and also has a huge history and looks showroom fresh. The perfect car for going on trans European blasts, its involving enough to excite but relaxing enough to not make your bones wince at the thought of a long journey. Epic car for epic drives."

BMW M3 CSL
Cost: £29,995
Balance: £22,520
Why I chose it: "On a track day I had a shotgun ride in one of these and the noise, speed, handling as well as the looks all had me convinced that this would be something I'd own one day. Sadly I can't see this happening anytime soon but seeing as I now have £100K to spend this example looks like its heading to my garage. This one looks to be in top nick." .

BMW 335d M Sport
Cost: £11,990
Balance: £10,530
Why I chose it: "This meant to be the (semi) sensible car, although it's both an estate and diesel, I don't think it could ever be called boring. I currently run a 330d and I think its brilliant- very quick without too much effort, makes a reasonably nice noise from inside, great to drive whilst never returning less than 33mpg even when really caned. A 335d should increase these attributes without impacting too much on the running costs. This one looks like a nice spec plus its only £12K."

VW Corrado VR6
Cost: £7,450
Balance: £3,080
Why I chose it: "I used to have a blue 1994 one of these and always regretted selling it. The looks, noise and handling were amazing and it attracted attention wherever I went. There really rare now and I'd love another. That leaves £3,080 for some fuel."

Interesting but somewhat odd choices but each to their own. I would like to see more functional and fun in one list.
