Always hated it. I would never consider buying a house without a drive purely for the fact that I hate street parking. I go to extreme lengths to avoid the dreaded park in a busy area scenario:

- I walk my kid to School but if its driving rain then I will still park half a mile from the School rather than face the hassle of competing for spaces.
- I will park half a mile from the busy Supermarket if there is even a hint that it could be busy.
- I park at the very, very end of the Gym where no one else would bother to venture.
- Will very rarely parallel park, just too much hassle.

I can do it if I have to, so it's not lack of skills, but I really, really hate it and I am not sure why.

Who's with me?

I am not a big bloke and I don't drive a big car (Golf) but I struggle to get in and out of my car when parking next to other cars, I wonder how some bigger, less mobile people manage it? I would of course be mortified if my car door marked someone else's car.

Maybe this is part of the problem, the anxiety induced by having my pride and joy at the mercy of other people extracting themselves from their cars? I am still haunted by the 15 year old memory of my not 5 day old Sports car bearing the marks of a car door viciously smashed into its side at a supermarket. (must have been done on purpose as I would be hard pressed to make the kind of mark unless I used all my force)

Just park in the disabled or parent and child spaces. They are made for people just like you wink
My car always has a car seat in it, but I would never park in a P+C one unless my kiddie was with me, i'm just not that kind of rebel!

I'm for too important to bother with parking. I just stop the car where I want in full knowledge that other vehicles have steering wheels fitted.

Perhaps my view is also influenced by a friend who lives in town who has a AM V8 parked in the street as he has no drive.

Practically every week he ragales us with stories of how someone had taken his space, blocked him in, hit his bumper etc etc. I also grimace every time I look at the state of his alloys.

I could not live like that; it would do my head in. If had to then I would buy a cheapo banger and carefully inspect the alloys, If one of them was unblemished I would take a brick to it so it was the same horrible state as the others - only then could I sleep soundly at night.

I have no issue with parking be it reversing in, parrallel or whatever approach is needed. Sometimes I find it quite rewarding slinging the car into a space and be bang in the middle first time or within a inch of the kerb without having to touch park.

What I hate about parking is that not everyone can do it, it fks me off massively that so many people who drive think it is acceptable to say they can't perform a simple reverse park or worse than that those who believe it is acceptable to lean or even less subtle just whack their doors into the car next to themfurious
I just find it too bothersome.

I have reversed a land rover and trailer down a bumpy, winding track in the dark with no problem so my skills when I can be bothered to apply them are quite fit for purpose.

I am also a dab hand at ironing a shirt, getting an exquisite shine on boots and when cleaning the fridge I will make sure I clean the back, the sides and even the bloody piping - but I will also hate every minute of doing those things.
