Tuthill 997 GT3 RGT on WRC Germany

Scutineering is passed and shakedown complete; time to rally the GT3!

Those who have lost interest in the WRC recently are plentiful. Many have become disaffected with a lack of coverage, fewer big name drivers and a perceived lack of interesting cars. The latter part of that will change this weekend as the Tuthill's Porsche 997 RGT takes on the Rally Germany.

Now this does look rather good fun
Now this does look rather good fun
The car has completed the pre-rally test where the below video was taken. Looks great sideways through hairpins, doesn't it? After 14 years away from the WRC Richard Tuthill said of the test, "Driving cars like this is an absolute joy. I've come to Germany to show people what's possible with the help of the FIA and this brilliant RGT initiative and already I'm amazed at the reception; I'm just worried this might become a full-time return!"

The Tuthill team is aiming for clean run through the German vineyards this weekend to get some much needed competition experience. With a brand new car and no precedent set they really have no idea what the weekend's stages will bring in terms of results.

Following yesterday's shakedown the rally itself will begin today. You can follow the progress of the Tuthill team at the official WRC website and on Twitter @OfficialWRC. All the best chaps!

Video here (and no, we don't understand the music either).

Tbo I have no idea about Tuthill's driving history - and have absolutely full respect to him for getting this car where it is - but, this is the second video I've seen of it now, and I'd love to see the car with a bit more than - what looks like - a good club driver in it. Compare and contrast the commitment with that shown in the recent 'Time for Tea' M3 Manx video. No disrespect meant to Mr Tuthill at all. And, again, many thanks to him for creating this car.

Richard is probably better known for his skills in older 911's. Always enjoy watching this..

Given how new the GT3 RGT is, I doubt he's pushing it as hard as it will go.
Cheers. Good viewing. But, again, quite 'gentle'. All things being relative of course!

Gentle laugh

Who are you... Walter Rohrl?
Just because I don't possess God like driving skills doesn't mean I can't see the difference between a really top guy - or someone who's 'on it' and a 'just' good one. I've re read my posts and think I made it clear that I don't actually know the true levels of ability Tuthill's but felt that I'd like to see this fabulous car driven in anger by a top flight guy. If you need to be Herr Rohrl to be allowed to comment I assume you're an ace then?

All in good humour and as already said fantastic that the man has got the car this far.

Think we probably need to sit you next to Richard as he drives 'gently' in a 911. The you can serve the humble-pie whichever way you want.
Hi Chris. Think you need to read ALL my words/comments - not just the ones you want to comment on. biggrin

Anyway - again - well done Mr T.

Comments are a bit 'meeow' frankly.
Not at all (if you mean me that is). Went out of my way to qualify and temper my comments which were made from viewing a couple of vids - which of course is not the same as intimate knowledge of a guy's skills and record (as I also said).

I didn't rubbish Tuthills's driving in any way. Merely commented that I'd like to see an absolute top guy (that could be Tuthill for all I know) at full commitment in this car and don't feel that we've seen this yet.

Apologies if anyone has misunderstood my posts - although, personally I think they were pretty clear and there's a little bit of oversensitivity being displayed.smile

Gentle? What? Are we watching the same video? hehe

It didn't look very gentle to me, with the ear defenders almost falling off after 30 seconds, sideways at speed, big air and a lot of 2WD old school 911 control.

Are you Ghost Rider? hehe (all in good jest...)

Lol. I refer you to my previous post. smile
