Which insurer/underwriter most friendly to mid-term swaps?

I tried to insure my 306 GTI-6 temporarily for a couple of weeks on my current policy, and been told they couldn't cover that particular car. Had the same story last time around, with a different insurer, trying to cover my Subaru Outback (2.5, not particularly quick) because they "didn't cover Subarus".

I've had to cancel a policy in the past and start a new one mid way through because they wouldn't cover the car I was changing into.

Does anyone know if any of the insurers/underwriters are particularly easy going with regards to this? I quite like changing cars, and occasionally want to drive someone elses car, etc. I'm due a renewal fairly soon on a car which I know I'm going to change in the near future so would prefer someone who I can change with, without cancelling and starting again.
