1 series performance edition, it was a special edition one they used on the 2012 olympics.

Its described as a quality enhancement which will help increase MPG by 20% and provide a smoother delivery of power.

The price of said magic beans is £99, i am curious as well, we will see. Im not too concerned about the price, just curious as to what they can do without changing the ECU settings.

I dont think they seem that corrupt, they do a rolling road test before and after to show the difference. Im not mechanically minded enough to know fully, Could ti be something as simple as slightly larger hoses, give it a good clean out, etc???

Stick some random "treatment" into the oil or fuel and re-calibrate the OBC to show better MPG than it's actually getting would be my guess.

I forgot to ask him on the phone, and i wouldnt fully understand even if they did tell me. I'll find out later on when i take the car in.

Even with a remap I'd be skeptical. OP why don't you ask the garage exactly what they do. If they can't/won't tell you then it's a load of hooey.

they probobaly would of told me, i just didnt ask and i thought it would be a simple thing people knew, thats why i asked on here?

How exactly do they test the (up to) 20% gain in MPG? Why is it so 'magical' that they cant explain what they do?

This smells like a fool and their money...

It sounds a lot like this: http://www.mpgtuning.co.uk/uk-first-99-pound_custo...

Are you sure its not an ECU remap? But then you seem happy to hand them over £99 without actually knowing what they are going to do...

Right...

dropped the car off and with all your piss taking, its actually very clever what they do.

German cars are setup to be "greener" due to the laws in germany in regards to emissions, the UK laws are not as strict as germanys. The car is factory setup to reuse some of the exhaust emissions to 1. lower the emissions coming out the exhaust, and 2. to reuse in the engine as air to spark the combustion.

What they do is lower the range which is allowed within the BMW software to make allowances for different countries regulations. So in doing this, they let more clean new air into the engine which reduces the amount of fuel being used as its got more air to cause the spark, in doing so, increasing the MPG and getting a cleaner sounding engine due to not using dirty air.

Comments please.

i was waiting for that.

Basically, i think what he's doing is a very clever way, do some googling, you might be surprised someone knows a bit more than you LOL, guessing thats why he's running his own garage and I'm not.

I think roughly translated that means the block off the EGR valve.......... Which means a remap to prevent the MIL on the dash illuminating, which means you need to tell your insurers about the change.......

(PS, if your diesel is "sparking" it's probably broken ;-)

Sounds like your NOx emissions will be going up.

The law is the same whether the car is sold in Germany or the UK.
