Following on from the comments in the mid life crisis thread, how do you think you're perceived when others see you in your car?

Now, I don't care what people think when I'm driving my 20 year old BMW 5 series barge; I just like how it drives. It's not particularly shiny or modified from original, so when people see me (mid 40s age) in it I assume they are either thinking "bmw geek" or perhaps just "can't afford a newer car".

However I would be interested to know how others see me.

Or if you're feeling brave post a description of you and your car (or a photo) and what you think it says about you.

Thanks for the replies.

I've found that a few people locally (Other dads on the school run for example) have said "Oh, so your house is the one with the old BMW", which I suppose marks me as a BMW geek. But I suspect driving round in an old car which isn't really a classic simply says "poor" to most people.

Oh snap! Mine's a 520i too and even has the whiney gearbox. I'm actually toying with selling it at the moment. Not sure what image it gives off and quite frankly I don't care.

Other car is an MX5 - I don't care what people say about that either.

For reference - I'm 26, have floppy hair and glasses and work as a paralegal. Most of the people I work with have Audi A3 S-Lines and the like.
I like the pre-facelift E34s with the narrower front grill. Mines a newer one
