Land Rover Defender 90: PH Fleet

From 30-minute fuel stops to a police encounter it's been an eventful month for the Twisted Defender!

Clearly the threat of reduced commission has spurred the ads boys into action! This month we've been inundated with anecdotes from their journeys around visiting clients. It's been at Sunday Services as well so we've got Nathan's input on that. Don't forget to say hello if you see TW14TED on the road!

Jack writes: "When asked to write about my brief experience of the Twisted Defender, I thought hard about how I could eloquently sum the car up and, most importantly, get the car's character across.

"I think my view of the Defender was cemented on overhearing a neighbour's comment: "What on earth is that tank doing parked in the road?". That, right there, is why the Twisted Defender is probably one of the coolest cars on the road.

"Merely being a passenger makes you feel like a part of some urban militia. All you need is a machine gun strapped to the roof and you'd be ready for WW3 or the zombie apocalypse.

"Before you even step (alright, jump - vertically challenged) into the Twisted Defender, the car brings a smile to your face. Regarding the drive and ride; if anyone has been watching 24 Hours in Police Custody on Channel 4, its best I simply say "no comment". You know what I mean."

Ruben writes: "The Defender is definitely a head turner and have experienced a many thumbs up from other Defender drivers which is cool. It makes me feel manly (!)

"I hadn't realised how many people actually recognise the PH brand when driving around but lots of the Defender had been receiving horn toots and comments from middle aged men all over the place. [Ruben maintains this was the car. We're yet to be convinced - MB]

"I was pulled over on the M25 as the lights weren't on but I was convinced they had been. Both of the policemen and I couldn't discover where the switch was! Rather awkward. We found it under steering wheel after several minutes..."

Ben writes: "You can't help but feel somewhat superior when driving the Defender. Literally a touch above the rest and somewhat invincible really. And you feel like a member an exclusive club given how many conventional SUVs can be seen on the road.

"Obvious though it may sound, it's still a shock getting into the Defender when accustomed to modern cars; you feel deprived of so much! But I've become a real fan of the back-to-basics approach. Who needs cruise control driving over a volcano anyway?" [Actual volcano off-roading may not occur - MB]

Racking up the miles with the ads chaps

Marcus writes: "I stopped to refuel recently on the M3 and was approached by a chap driving a 110 Defender who had far too many questions for my limited knowledge. Luckily Sam had armed me with enough information to hold a decent(ish) conversation with him. He was a landscaper who used the Defender for both business and pleasure. Before he left he took my details so he could get in touch to list a couple of his other cars in the classifieds!

"At the same service station, another PHer wanted to talk to me about the Defender and mentioned seeing it at Wilton House. Another big fan of the site and an even bigger fan of the newest PH fleet member! It's never taken me so long to fill up..."
