Revised Focus ST prices announced

Fast Focus was good value before and remains so with the facelift; hurrah!

Two hundred pounds. It's not an awful lot really, is it? A track day, just one tyre in some cases, a couple of tanks on a Range Rover. But that's the premium asked by Ford for the latest Focus ST, revised over the previous car with improved handling (see the original story for more detail), better infotainment and new styling. Both 250hp petrol and 185hp diesel ST hatchbacks start at £22,195.

As before, three specifications are offered from ST-1 to ST-3. There's a £1,500 premium for ST-2 from ST-1, adding auto lights and wipers, Recaro seats, a heated windscreen and LED running lights. For the eight-inch Sync 2 touchscreen, heated Recaros and keyless start you'll need an ST-3. That's from £25,995. For reference a 5-door Golf GTD is £26,420 and equivalent GTI £26,985.

There was a lot to like about the previous Focus ST, one of those attributes being the availability of an estate. Who wouldn't want to do the lairy hot hatch thing with a wardrobe in the back? The premium for a wagon is £1,100, meaning it starts from £23,295. There will be a twin test should the Leon Cupra estate make production.

With the ST proving very popular since its 2012 launch there are plenty of used examples around too. Both hatch and estate are from £15K now if the latest styling and tech aren't must-haves. Wonder if there's an RS coming?

All the people saying the golf is expensive. The ST-3 focus in estate form (possibly the best choice) is £27,095.

Golf doesn't look so overpriced now.
